Thank you so much for all the responses to my care-package! It should be on the way some time soon! I will think of you always when I am drinking water and taking pictures! Smile!
The last thing that I told you all was that I was about to go on a weeklong outreach to a place they had not told me yet. Well, I went to Boca Chica, Colombia. Boca Chica is an Island that is 30 minutes off the coast of Cartagena. When I got there I was transported all the way to Africa. It was crazy. Kids running around with no clothes on, like in the movie “The Gods Must Be Crazy.” I literally got off the boat and felt like I had sailed all the way across the Atlantic. They just got electricity on the island and are waiting for the running water to come. There is no purified water. They normally bring it over from Cartagena and sell it there. The only work that is on the island is fishing and making necklaces from the shells on the beach. The island is run by the “macho” men and children. Most of the children have an average of 32 brothers and sisters. Different moms, same dad. They don’t really get married. I met a handfuls of girls that were about 21 and had 3 children, the oldest being 6,7… Their motto is “Live, Reproduce, Die.” I spoke with some older people and they had never left the island. They grew up just the way these kids did and nothing had changed. The sad thing is that 80% of the island claims to be Christian, but they are not living it. They aren’t even faking it. There has been a YWAM presence there for the last 10+ years. They have a great program that we were able to join that week. The week went by extremely fast and I really want to go back again. Something that my team was ready for was that we were only going there for a week. We were simply planting seeds. We were not going to solve anyone’s life. God will do the rest. Please pray for the people of Boca Chica, Colombia.
Something VERY important is happening on April 5th! I am running in a marathon. Yikes! Here’s the thing, we are raising money for YWAM Cartagena’s construction project of their base. YWAM Cartagena, wants to create an atmosphere for the development of Christian character through training schools, Strategic Missions, pioneering arts, English and Spanish language acquisition and ministries that help society both physically and spiritually. In this way, they will expand of the Gospel and create multicultural encounters for which they consider indispensable and necessary the undertaking of the construction of the House for the Nations. After five years of paper work, buying the land, many meetings with the architect, and seeking God’s guidance for the development of this project, they finally have the approval to start it. At the moment they have the following resources:
*$25,000 in cash
*The land: 50 Xs 12.50 meters, or equivalent to 625 square meters
The projected cost of the project is approximately $1.6 million. So what does this mean? I am running a marathon loop. The loop is .5 miles. If you would like to sponsor me, let me know how much you would like to sponsor per loop. Don’t worry, this is not an all day thing, it will only go on for an hour. $1 per loop would be great! $5 would be better and anything higher would be awesome. Let me know if you can sponsor me and we can set up the donations the same way we do the other ones!
Physical needs: I miss my peanut butter! = )
Prayer requests: God showed me something awesome that I am having to pray for. He told me that He had not called me to Iquitos, Peru. What???? No. He told me that He has called me to the “Nazareths” of the world. What do I mean by that? Nazareth, in the days of Christ, was considered an uncultured, unreligious town compared to the Roman metropolises that were around and Jerusalem. They said that “nothing good would come out of Nazareth”… Uh, wrong! Salvation of the whole world came out of Nazareth! He called me to the places in the world that are considered to be a “Nazareth”. Places that the governments and churches have rejected. Places like Iquitos, Boca Chica……. Get the idea? Please pray that God would continue to show me how and where… I am still going to Iquitos for a period of 2 years when I am done with my DTS, but I am really praying about the next steps. I was not called to one place in the world. I am called to the Nazareths!
HOW CAN I PRAY FOR YOU??? Please let me know what is going on in your life so that I can pray for you all too.
Love you all SOOOO much!
Sylvia
